Tell Me Something

Filmmaker Jessica Edwards (Tugs; The Landfill) has a wonderful new book out called Tell Me Something: Documentary Filmmakers, and it’s a must-have for anyone who’s a fan of or who works on nonfiction films. It’s a compilation of interviews with and advice from such notable doc directors as Frederick Wiseman, Errol Morris, Morgan Spurlock, Michael Moore, Barbara Kopple, DA Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus, Clio Barnard, Michael Apted, Albert Maysles, Lucy Walker, Martin Scorsese, Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, Alex Gibney, Brett Morgen, Sebastian Junger, Stanley Nelson, Steve James, James Marsh, Marshall Curry and more*. And there is a terrific new portrait of each interviewee accompanying their words of wisdom. If you’re smart, you’ll get a couple copies of this book so you can cut out those pictures from one and plaster the walls of your room with them.

You can get your first copy in digital form — so this would be the one to read, not cut up — care of Nonfics and Versions Publishing, who is providing us with a pair of e-books of Tell Me Something to give away to two lucky readers. And it’s really easy to enter. All you need to do is “like” Nonfics on Facebook, follow Nonfics on Twitter and then share your favorite documentary filmmaker’s name with us and your followers. You can do the last part on either Facebook by sharing this post in your news feed accompanied by your pick of director (it doesn’t have to be someone in the book, by the way) or on Twitter by tweeting the following phrase (with the blank substituted with the director’s name and the appropriate possessive pronoun selected): “My favorite documentary director is (blank). Read about (his/her) films and others on @Nonfics.”

The deadline to like, follow and post or tweet is Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 8pm ET. After that time we will have a drawing to determine the two winners and announce on Monday.

If you can’t wait that long, you can go ahead and purchase a copy via iTunes. Go to the Versions Publishing site to first download a preview the book, and there’s a link to buy it there, too.

Good luck, and enjoy!
