‘The Look of Silence,’ ‘Cartel Land’ and Lady Gaga Are Among the Documentary Oscar Nominees

Cartel Land (The Documentary Group)

The nominees for the 2016 Academy Awards were announced this morning, and there are actually more documentaries nominated than usual. No, we didn’t see Amy recognized for editing nor is there another nonfiction film in the foreign language mix, and once again there’s no doc contending for Best Picture, but there are two docs up for Best Original Song, which I believe might be a first.
