Nominees for the 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards were announced this morning, and I’d like to share the results relevant to this site. I know it probably seems random to highlight these particular awards, but I participated in the voting for the nominees as a member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
That’s why I should also note some of my ballot entries. The Look of Silence is the only one of my three choices for Best Documentary Feature to be nominated, the other two being Approaching the Elephant and In Jackson Heights. And in addition to nominated Best Song “Til It Happens To You” from The Hunting Ground, I also had “Manta Ray” from Racing Extinction.
The Look of Silence was also one of my picks for Best Foreign Language Film, along with another documentary, The Russian Woodpecker. And it was one of my picks for Best Picture, the only one I put into that category. Finally, I choice Amy as a nominee for Best Editing, but it didn’t make the cut.
This year, movie and TV Critics’ Choice Awards are presented together. I only am involved with the movie half. The winners, which I’ll also take part in voting on (movie only) will be announced in a telecast ceremony on January 17th.
