‘The Act of Killing’ and ‘Jake Shimabukuro: Life on Four Strings’ Win Gotham Awards

The 23rd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards were held tonight in New York City, and two documentaries were honored during the ceremony. Joshua Oppenheimer’s globally acclaimed The Act of Killing was named Best Documentary while — more of a surprise here — the little talked about ukelele player profile Jake Shimabukuro: Life on Four Strings took the Audience Award, which was voted on by fans online. Seems a lot of people tuned into PBS for that one. Maybe it’ll be made available on the station’s website again now. Otherwise, you can find it on DVD or streaming via Amazon Instant Video. Check out the trailer for this apparent crowd pleaser below.
