The Critics Choice Association announced nominees for the 4th annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards. Among the titles chosen this year are the limited documentary series Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt, both of them directed or co-directed by Malcolm Venville and released on the History Channel. Martin Scorsese co-directed one of the two episodes of the latter documentary series, which he executive produced.
Both of those documentaries are nominated for Best Limited Series, alongside two Joe Berlinger-helmed Netflix true-crime series: Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes and Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer. Rounding out the Best Limited Series category are W. Kamau Bell’s We Need to Talk About Cosby, and Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo.
This year, the Critics Choice Real TV Awards will not be presenting awards for Best Limited Documentary Series or Best Ongoing Documentary Series, as both categories will be returning to the Critics Choice Documentary Awards this fall. One usual Ongoing Documentary Series contender, ESPN’s 30 for 30, did wind up with a Real TV nod for Best Sports Series.
Other documentary programs are in the mix with reality TV and general unscripted content throughout the rest of this year’s nominations. Below is the full list of 2022 Critics Choice Real TV Awards nominees.
