One of our most anticipated documentaries of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival is Rich Hill, a chronicle of three boys living in a small, impoverished town in Missouri. Maybe you read my post from October where I predict it could wind up in contention for the best doc of the year. I’m sure I’ve been a bit premature on that expectation (at least my prediction that it’d debut at Sundance came true), but it sure does look amazing. “Look” being the important word.
Rich Hill is the collaboration of sibling co-directors Tracy Droz Tragos (Be Good, Smile Pretty) and Andrew Droz Palermo (cinematographer on the acclaimed fiction works You’re Next and A Teacher) and is about the town in the title, which is where their parents grew up. I’ve been enjoying similar portraits of people and places lately, docs like Medora and 45365 that focus on that disappearing piece of American life. I can’t wait to see this one.
