The Broadcast Television Journalists Association (of which I am a member) announced the nominees for the inaugural Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards this week. The event will honor the best in nonfiction television, including reality TV shows and documentary series, in a ceremony held in Beverly Hills on June 2nd.

The contenders in the latter categories — previously a part of the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards — are divided into groups of limited and ongoing docuseries and include some of our recent favorites, as reviewed here at Nonfics, such as the Netflix releases Our Planet and Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes.

Both of those series received multiple nominees each, with Our Planet also recognized in the Best Animal/Nature Show and Male Star of the Year categories, the latter for narrator David Attenborough, and Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes also contending for the Best Crime/Justice Show award.

As for the main focus on reality television, the most CCRA nods went to RuPaul’s Drag Race (plus RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked) followed by Netflix’s Queer Eye and Tidying Up with Marie Kondo.
