The fourth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards was held in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 12, 2022, with honors going to a variety of nonfiction series. Among the winners of this year’s CCRTVAs were the documentaries We Need to Talk About Cosby, which was named Best Limited Series, and Secrets of Playboy, which won the award for Best Crime/Justice Show.
Also, the Netflix hit series Cheer won the award for Best Sports Show for its second season. The first season of that program, which was thought to be a standalone series at the time, won multiple awards at the 2020 CCRTVAs, including Best Unstructured Series, though it lost in the Sports Show category that year. This year, Cheer was only nominated in the one category.
Food-related shows were particularly successful at this year’s event. Not only did Top Chef win the award for Best Culinary Show, but it also tied with RuPaul’s Drag Race in the Best Competition Series category. Additionally, Padma Lakshmi was named Best Show Host for both Top Chef and Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi.
Other foodie-fare series honored at the 2022 CCRTVAs: Selena + Chef, with Selena Gomez being named Female Star of the Year; Restaurant Impossible, with Robert Irvine being named Male Star of the Year; and Somebody Feed Phil, which won for Best Travel/Adventure Show.
