Box Office: ‘Muscle Shoals’ Proves To Be a Steady Sleeper By Slowly Scooping Half a Million Dollars
There’s not too much excitement with this week’s documentary box office report. The only new release to report numbers is Dear Mr. Watterson, which is doing decent business for a film that was also released on iTunes/VOD the same day it hit theaters. The only really notable film of the continuing releases is Muscle Shoals, which is also on iTunes and yet continues a steady rise on the weekend and yearly chart. The doc actually circled into the half-million mark last weekend, but for some reason I didn’t notice. What it means, though, is that it’s popped into the Top 25 of 2013 (or Top 10 if you’re Indiewire), and The Act of Killing has been bumped out. Not surprising. Celebrating old music is always more popular than human rights issues.
