'Minding the Gap' and 'The Silence of Others' Lead IDA Honors

The International Documentary Association has also already named some of this year's winners, including 'Distant Constellation' and 'Bisbee '17.'

The nominees for the 2018 IDA Documentary Awards have been announced for major categories, including those honoring features, shorts, and series. The International Documentary Association also named winners in a number of craft categories, including those recognizing the best writing, editing, scoring, and cinematography.

Among the 10 films nominated for Best Feature, Minding the Gap has also already won for Best Editing (honoring the work of Bing Liu and Joshua Altman) and director Bing Liu was named the recipient of the Emerging Filmmaker Award.

The Silence of Others is another Best Feature nominee as well as the winner of this year’s Pare Lorentz Award, which in the spirit of Lorentz “recognizes work that demonstrates exemplary filmmaking while focusing on the appropriate use of the natural environment, justice for all, and the illumination of pressing social problems.”

Other films that have already been named IDA Documentary Award winners for this year include Distant Constellation for Best Cinematography, The Other Side of Everything for Best Writing, and both Bisbee ’17 and Hale County This Morning, This Evening for Best Music Score. Hale County is also nominated for Best Feature.
